Turning left out of our driveway, past two neighboring houses, brings you to the bayfront which is lined in tall grasses.
I love the grasses all year round - in their summer greenery and in their autumn and winter shades.
Just at the end of 12th Street there is a small path through the grass which allows access to the shallow waters where small boats may be moored. Across the shallows you can see High Bar Harbor, a residential peninsula which is accessed from Barnegat Light but is part of Long Beach Township, a municipal entity made up of many small communities on the island. Barnegat Light, though small, has its own Mayor and Municipal Council, Post Office (and zip code), Fire Department, First Aid Squad and Municipal Court. Police services are provided by Long Beach Township.
